Why I Love Washing My Face: The Morning Edition

morningskin

I’m making a conscious effort to take better care of my skin. This means washing my face morning and night, eating a balanced diet (trying to say no to donuts/cake/cookies), and taking a multi-vitamin and fish oil capsules daily (if I remember).

This also means accepting the fact that a half-assed attempt to remove makeup with a wipe does not count as washing my face (a sad, sad discovery). I’m still working on the drinking more water part, so if you have any tips, help a girl out. My coffee to water ratio is sad.

Confession time: I am not a morning person. Never have been. So this might sound a bit weird when I say I actually look forward to my morning skincare routine. From the orange scented cleanser to the light-weight moisturizer, these are the products that help me get out of bed in the morning: DSC_1325_edited

Burt’s Bees Orange Essence Facial Cleanser ($7.99): If a face wash that smells like straight up oranges isn’t enough to entice you, then maybe the quality of this cleanser will. I love Burt’s Bees products, and this one is no exception. DSC_1341_edited

Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads ($12.99): The pads are soaked in exfoliating glycolic acid and witch hazel to help resurface skin and keep wrinkles at bay. I know I’m only 24, but it’s better to be early to the wrinkle prevention party than late. Glycolic is everywhere. These pads aren’t drying at all, and are great for daily use. I’ve definitely noticed a difference since I’ve started using them, and they smell pretty great, too.DSC_1343_edited

Cetaphil DermaControl Oil Control Moisturizer SPF 30 ($17.99): Speaking of wrinkles, I’m a firm believer in SPF, always. I think 40-year-old me will thank 24-year-old me for this later. And my dermatologist would be so proud. Cetaphil is one of my favorite drugstore brands and I love this facial moisturizer. I lather it on my face daily before my foundation. It’s extremely lightweight, doesn’t make me breakout and has SPF 30. Hollaaa.

These are good to know! The moisturizer I use now is only SPF 15 and I need to hop on the 30 train, so I may check this one out.

I try to drink 64 oz. of water a day (but usually end up only drinking about 50.) I have a 32 oz. Nalgene water bottle that I’ve marked with the times of the day, i.e. by 10 AM I need to drink my first 8 oz., by 12 PM I need to drink my next 8, etc. I also set alarms on my phone so that I finish my first bottle by 2 PM. It’s kind of a nuisance, but it works surprisingly well for me during the day while I’m at work. At home… not so much, but I’m trying!

    • Sarah, that’s awesome! You go, girl. I really need to try that. I’m just the worst when it comes to drinking water. And I know it’s so important. Fruit definitely helps, but I hate buying fruit just to put it in my water. Love your method!

  • I use a line of products from Peaches Skin Care, located in Montgomery, Ohio. Their products are all natural and affordable. And as often as my budget allows, I try to get facials at Peaches too. My skin has never looked better.

    • Awesome! I definitely need to check this place out. P.S. – I’ve never had a facial before and I seriously think I’m missing out. Need to hop on that bandwagon. Thanks for the suggestion!

  • That Burt’s Bees product looks enticing, I’ll need to give it a try!:)
