I remember the first time I officially wore makeup…and no, I’m not counting the times I snuck into my mom’s bathroom and plastered her red lipstick all over my face. I was in the 6th grade and going through the “I just want to be an adult, already” phase. The phase where I loved to tell people I was 13, even though I was 11 (only to have my little sister call me out for it in front of my summer crush — true story).
I started carrying a purse, wearing perfume and migrating into the realm of scented chapstick and Wet n’ Wild. Then, one day while on vacation with my entire family, my older cousin pulled out her makeup bag…
This is the part where things changed.
Discovering a generously-filled makeup bag was how I imagined Christopher Columbus felt when he discovered the Americas. It was by complete accident, but it was all kinds of awesome. Lipgloss? The shinier and more flavored, the better. Eye shadow? I’ll take the powder blue, please. Glitter? Yep, let me just roll that all over my face (remember this stuff?).
It snowballed from there.
A year or so later — when the glitter fad became less sparkly — my mom treated me to my first “real adult” makeup experience at the Clinique counter. By the time I had reached 8th grade, my teenage skin was a complete disaster and this line worked like a charm. Now as a semi-adult, in addition to skincare, I can’t get enough of Clinique’s makeup products. Have you guys tried their new Chubby mascara? Mind. Blown. When Clinique asked me to try it, I said yes…times infinity.
Now, for the really good part.
The brand recently launched this new site called “The Wink,” which is so cool, guys. It’s a beauty and lifestyle blog wrapped into one, and will definitely become my new BFF when I’m on the hunt for makeup tips (seriously, where was this when I was bathing in glitter?). I bookmarked this post to give me a bit of inspiration with my new mascara. And can we just talk about this recipe for a second — popsicles in the name of good skin? Well, twist my arm…
“The Wink” just launched today and I think you guys will love it. Check it out here and let me know what you think!
And because I rambled on about my first makeup wearing experience, I’m dying to know your story. Share in the comments!
