Having a sister is like growing up with a live-in best friend. She’s the kind of best friend who still associates with you after you danced on a table at a frat party with a bottle of cheap vodka because you’re 25 and wanted to show a bunch of 20-year-olds you can still hang (more like hangover). A sister is there when you need her. She understands you, tells you things she wouldn’t tell anyone else, and is your confidant when you have your own secrets, too. Because let’s be honest, mom and dad don’t need to know everything.
Is having a sister always sunshine and rainbows? Far from it. Some days are downright ugly, filled with screaming, hair pulling, eye rolling and name calling. I steal her clothes and she steals mine. We fight about literally everything and let our tempers get the best of us.
But, at the end of the day, we’re there for each other, no matter what. And fights and all, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
This is my sister, Nina. We’re five years apart, and yes, she’s about five shades tanner than me. We love to laugh — I’m the goofy one, she’s the quick-witted one. She’s outgoing, has some serious personal style and is just plain fun to be around. I go to her for advice when I need some tough love, and she isn’t afraid to give it to me straight. I’ve really enjoyed watching her grow into the person she is today, and I have no doubts she’ll kill it in the future with whatever she decides to do.
