Spring Style with A&F: Two Looks for the Upcoming Season

Military Twill Vest | White Eyelet Dress | Bandana

Spring is so close, guys. So close. Soon we’ll all be packing away our sweaters and boots in favor of warmer weather pieces. When it comes to shopping for the new season, I’ve turned to Abercrombie & Fitch (something I didn’t think I’d say after 8th grade). Why? Because a) I’m nostalgic and b) it’s SO GOOD now. Even better than the old days, if you can believe that (the prices are better, too!).

I put together two spring appropriate looks with some of my favorite pieces from A&F, and I have a feeling I’ll be wearing everything on serious repeat when the temps rise.

    FEMININE MEETS EDGY

This dress is pretty on its own, but I love how it takes on a completely different vibe when paired with a military vest, ankle boots and bandana. That’s what I like to call versatility. Who says a feminine dress has to stay that way? Toughen it up a bit!

PRINTED BLOUSE AND GRAY DENIM SKIRT

    Blouse | Skirt

This blouse is my go-to for literally everything — work, weekend, date night. You name the place or activity, and chances are I’ve been there and worn this (I’m actually wearing it to work today, ha!). It’s my favorite Abercrombie find and it’s such a steal right now! I love the way it looks paired with this denim skirt and my favorite pair of over-the-knee boots.

Thank you to Abercrombie & Fitch and RewardStyle for sponsoring this post. And thank YOU for supporting the brands that make Natalie Was Here a happenin’ place to be!

Wait Until You See the New Abercrombie & Fitch…

Abercrombie is back, guys. In a big way, too.

The new prototype store, located in Polaris Fashion Place (on the lower level near JCPenny) is bright, open, airy and inviting. Not exactly the Abercrombie you remember from years past. Forget feeling like you need a flash light to shop. Forget the overpowering cologne.

It’s everything you’d look for in a shopping experience, but with a twist. Not only is the new layout easy to navigate – it’s modern, too. The dressing rooms are equipped with phone chargers and lighting you can dial up or down to fit your mood. With the click of a button, you can see what your outfit will look like in different environments, from direct sunlight to a night club. It’s actually the most awesome dressing room I’ve ever been in. Did I mention the phone chargers?

Now, onto the clothing…(because it’s so good)

I am obsessed. I had to hold myself back from buying everything, but I did pick up this dress, this vest (love how it looks over the dress!), these jeans, this sweater and this bandana. It was a successful trip to say the least (PSA: everything is 25% off online right now!).

If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend you swing by Polaris Fashion Place this weekend and check out the new store for yourself. This is the first A&F of its kind, but the company has plans to open more across the country if they receive good feedback (and I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t). I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Black Tie, Semiformal, Casual — Pretty, Affordable Dresses to Wear This Wedding Season

Dress: H&M – $49.99 (no longer available online, but similar here)

When you reach your mid-twenties, going to weddings becomes (what feels like) a weekly thing. Last year, Fritz and I attended six or seven weddings, and I won’t lie, I wore the same trusty romper for most of them. So, I’ll be the last person to judge you for outfit repeating. You do you, girl.

If you have several on your calendar for the upcoming season and don’t have a clue what to wear, you’ve come to the right place. I selected some pretty, budget-friendly (all under $100) options for any kind of wedding, whether it’s black tie, semi-formal or casual.

How to Style an Overall Dress

Dress: Target (similar version on sale for $8!) | Body Suit: Abercrombie (on sale for $11!) | Boots: Macy’s

I’ve never really been an overall girl (well, unless you count my brief stint with my trusty pair in Kindergarten). When they came back in style a few years ago, I was a little skeptical. I did impulsively buy a pair, but they just sat in my closet. I tried to make them work, but they didn’t feel like me.

But, the overall dress? Now, that’s something I can get behind.

This one from Target (not exact, but very similar) is a pretty maroon shade, so when styling it, I reached for black and white pieces to help the dress itself really stand out.

And this brings me to the next part…

What to wear under an overall dress

When looking for pieces to layer under an overall dress, I’d highly recommend a body suit because you won’t have to worry about fabric bunching up as you go throughout your day. An off-the-shoulder version is perfect for spring. But if the temps get a little chilly, a turtle neck body suit is also a great option.

    Let’s talk shoes

I love, love, love over-the-knee boots. So to dress up this look a bit, I reached for my favorite pair. If they’re not your thing and you’re looking for a more casual look, you could easily swap out the boots for sneakers, flats or even ankle boots. The possibilities are endless!

    Zara FTW

On a recent trip to Las Vegas with my family, I made a pit stop in Zara and snagged these jeans, this jacket and these shoes. It was the shopping trip of all shopping trips and I’ve been wearing all of my pieces non-stop since then.

(Zara, PLEASE come to Ohio. Please.) *Update: Thank you to Lauren for letting me know there is one in Cleveland! Driving there now…

Sure, the outfit isn’t super fancy. It’s pretty simply, actually. And that’s what I love most about it. The jacket is structured, the heels are comfortable and the jeans have easily become my new favorite thing. They’re distressed in all the right places and make me feel 10x cooler than I really am. Not bad for a pair of jeans.

Jeans: Zara (only one size left, but they’re on sale for $22.99!) (similar pair here) | Top: Forever 21 (similar here and here) | Jacket: Zara (best money I’ve ever spent) | Shoes: Zara (similar pair in black) | Bag: Old Navy (similar)

By the way, I can’t believe I haven’t talked to you since last year! Ha, okay, I promise that’s the last of the cheesy new year jokes. How are you? How’s life? Awesome, I hope.

This past Saturday, Fritz and I drove down to Cincinnati for an annual reunion with our college friends. The day was jam-packed, but that’s how I like to roll. I met up with a former Cincinnati blogger and her sister-in-law to plan a fun photo shoot for their new floral business they’re launching in a few months (did I tell you I’m starting my own photography gig? SO excited), stopped by my parents’ bridal show, drove to Dana’s (a dive bar near Xavier University) and then went out with everyone downtown. It was colder than cold, but I ate Skyline Chili at 3 a.m. so that made up for it.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you’re having a great week!

    Pink Maxi Dress

Pink maxi dress from VICI Collection also comes in mustard yellow (only $62!) | Jacket: purchased in Florence, Italy (real leather, faux leather) | Shoes: Borrowed (similar)

It’s officially winter in Ohio (just in case you had any doubts). The temperature reached a balmy 24-degrees this morning. So, while I’m currently sitting at my desk, bundled in my coat and scarf, I can’t help but think back to slightly warmer days, when it was socially acceptable to wear this pink maxi dress from VICI Collection in public (who am I kidding, I’d still wear it!).

I bought it a few months ago for a wedding in Vegas, and it was so fun to wear. If you haven’t heard of VICI, I’d highly recommend browsing. They have the cutest tops, sweaters, dresses, etc., and everything is reasonably priced. I have my eye on this and this next.

From the Archives: Corduroy Skirt and Black and White Blouse

How have you guys been?! It’s officially been f-o-r-e-v-e-r since I checked in with you last. Between traveling and work and side photography projects, I haven’t been able to muster the energy to sit down and write blog posts. Do you ever feel overwhelmed trying to juggle it all? The struggle is so real.

But, all of that aside, I’m so happy to be back with an outfit post I should have shared a few months ago (oops). I lived in this combo during late summer/early fall and I won’t be putting it away just yet. Black tights and boots are the perfect way to take any warmer look into the cooler months.
